Super Saturday

When you run a campaign called “Christmas Climate Strike” your window for outreach narrows as the big day approaches. Today is December 19th, and yet it’s not too late to get the word out!

“Super Saturday continues to be the biggest shopping day of the year with an estimated 147.8 million U.S. consumers expected to participate, up from 134.3 million last year, according to the annual survey released today by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.”

Nearly 148 million Americans plan to shop Super Saturday , 12/17/2019

Many wait until the last minute to go Christmas shopping. It’s not too late to get the word out and ask them to give up gifts this holiday season. Even if they already did some shopping, ask them to stop and do no more.

Why should you give up gifts for the Christmas Climate Strike?

  • This is an complementary action to school climate strikes. Not everyone can make it to in-person events or can even organize one, such as in Russia.
  • Billions of pounds of waste related to holiday gift-giving end up in landfills.
  • Economic boycotts and the resulting loss of money get attention from governments and big business alike.
  • Telling friends and family about your participation, and that you want them to buy you no gifts, starts a conversation about climate change and activism. Personal conversations have a big impact.

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST! This is the last chance to get people to re-think their wasteful consumer habits before they head to the malls and shop for gifts this weekend. We need earth-friendly traditions for the holidays that promote spending quality time with one another, not buying junk none of us really want or need.
